Action

As you can imagine, we've had an anxious week. Today, Derek had an appointment with his oncologist. His chemo starts tomorrow. Understandably, he's not looking forward to the side effects, since he knows what to expect from his previous round of treatments. Apparently there is a new anti-nausea drug, though, and we're hoping that it will help diminish some of those side effects.

At least there is some action. It eases the anxieties a bit.

My daughter went through very aggressive chemotherapy for stage III breast cancer in 2005. They used the drug Aloxi (palonosetron)to prevent nausea and vomiting. This was a new drug at the time, not available everywhere. UCLA Medical center put the drug right in her IV (it is a long acting formula and prevents nausea and vomiting for up to 5 days.) This medication was very effective; although my daughter had severe exhaustion for a few days after her chemo treatments, she had no vomiting nor nausea, only some slight queasiness occasionally.
