As fathers' days go, this is a sad one today.
Since our son died on May 3, I will no longer be
getting a fathers' day card from him.
But, in future, the sad memories will be tempered
by the happy memories we have of our time together,
and this day will be bitter-sweet.

I just want you to know that you raised a good man. A man who inspired and touched a lot of lives and continues to do so even after his death. Your son has touched me in a way that I just can't describe. I'm 29 and having a very hard time with my life. Still trying to figure out what's the next right step for me to take or to just stop trying all together.
Your son's strength and courage has taught me, that there's more to life than just suffering. That I need to enjoy the people and things around me before they are gone.
I want to thank you for giving the word the gift of Derek. Your son has made a difference in this world and will be greatly missed.
Happy Father's Day.

My heart aches for all of you. You must know that you raised a son who influenced so many people in so many different ways. His legacy lives on his daughters and Airdrie. Take care of yourselves.
Even in death your son has touched my life and the lives of many others. He was very special--and in that regard I bet he took after his father.
